Holy Week & Easter at St. Mark's
We invite you to join us for the most holy week of the Christian year.
On Palm Sunday we re-enact our Lord's triumphant entry into Jerusalem with the Liturgy of the Palms, and at the morning masses we hear the Passion according to St. Luke. In the evening we gather for Choral Evensong and the Way of the Cross ending with Benediction.
Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday in Holy Week
For those desiring to attend worship every day of Holy Week, we offer our normal rota of services including said Morning Prayer, a noonday Sung Mass, and Evensong with Holy Communion each of these days.
On Maundy Thursday we observe the Institution of the Lord's Supper and the Washing of Feet. After the mass the Holy Sacrament is transferred to the Altar of Repose, and the all-night watch begins. We also strip the altars.
On Good Friday at 12:00 noon the Solemn Liturgy begins. On this day we hear the choir chant the Passion according to St. John, and the congregation venerates the holy cross. Confessions for Easter may be heard after the liturgy.
Easter Eve is the most holy night of the year. We begin with the New Fire in the parish garden, followed by vigil readings in the church outlining the history of salvation. Baptisms are celebrated, ending with the first high mass of Easter. An Easter reception follows the service.
Alleluia, Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed, alleluia! The celebrations continue on Easter Day with the second High Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt for children. Evensong and Benediction for Easter Day is at 5:00 pm.
