St. Mark's Cinema

St. Mark's Cinema is a series of parish social outings in which parishioners learn about various issues facing our community and world. Organized by our outreach ministry, all are invited to gather for these films and the subsequent discussions.

Past Gathering: When We Rise at the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival

August 2017

When We Rise is a special presentation of the highly-acclaimed ABC miniseries chronicling the real-life struggles, setbacks, and triumphs of LGBT activists. Written and created by Academy Award winner and Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival alum Dustin Lance Black (MILK), part one of the four-part series focuses on Cleve Jones, an AIDS and LGBT rights champion, Roma Guy, a women's rights leader, and Ken Jones, an African-American community organizer, as they seek safe harbor and join the burgeoning LGBTQ movement in San Francisco. The screening is followed by a question and answer session with creator Dustin Lance Black.
