Steven Severin, raised in central Oʻahu, has studied the piano since he was eight years old and earned a bachelor's degree from University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, and a masters degree from University of Texas at Austin, both in piano performance. As a performer he focuses on collaborative music—providing accompaniment for soloists, chamber ensembles, and choirs. Aside from his work at St. Mark’s, he teaches music at Kamehameha Schools, and he accompanies the women’s chamber choir Nā Wai and the Cantilena ensemble of the Hawaiʻi Youth Opera Chorus.
His wife, Erin Keakealani Richardson Severin, sings in the St. Mark's Choir and is a teacher at Waikiki Elementary School. Both Steven and Erin discovered the Episcopal Church while serving at St. Mark's, subsequently participating in the Catechumenate with Steven being received in 2017 and Erin being baptized in 2017.
Steven is also the officiant for Evening Prayer every Thursday evening at 5:30 pm, and he enjoys cooking and cycling.
