Marian Devotion

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

At St. Mark's we hold a special devotion to Mary since she is the Mother of God. The Parish Guild of the Annunciation prays the Rosary every Sunday at 10:20 am before the 11:00 am Mass, and Marian devotions, such as the Angelus, are said or sung at the masses and daily offices. Saturdays are regularly designated as Sabbaths of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and every May there is a May Procession and Crowning. Throughout the year we also celebrate the traditional Marian feast days.

The Guild of the Annunciation

Parish Guild of the BVM

The Guild of the Annunciation is our parish Marian society comprised of members and friends of St. Mark’s who practice and enjoy Marian devotions. Every Sunday the Guild leads a recitation of the Holy Rosary in the Lady Chapel at 10:30 am before the 11:00 am Mass.

In addition to supporting the masses and offices of Marian feast days, the Guild regularly hosts Marian Saturdays, which include Matins and Laud of the BVM, the Holy Rosary, a Votive Mass of the BVM, as well as time for fellowship, conversation, and refreshments, revolving around a topic relating to the Blessed Mother.

On Sunday afternoons, the Guild supports Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and the Novena of the Guild is prayed at the conclusion of Vespers each Sunday after the Marian anthem.

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord brought tidings unto Mary.
And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Behold, the handmaid of the Lord;
Be it unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary . . .

[Genuflect.] The Word was made flesh;
And dwelt among us. [Arise.]
Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.
We beseech thee, O Lord,
pour thy grace into our hearts,
that as we have known
the incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ
by the message of an angel,
so by his cross and passion
we may be brought to the glory of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
