Baptismal Catechesis

ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM

In the Episcopal Church, infants of Christian parents are baptized as full members of the Body of Christ. The parents and sponsors meet with the clergy for instruction prior to the Baptism, and the baptism occurs within the context of public worship. Baptisms are celebrated at the Easter Vigil, the Day of Pentecost, the feast of All Saints, and the Sunday of the Baptism of Christ. Other times may be arranged in consultation with the clergy. Following the historic practice of the church throughout the centuries, Baptisms are not celebrated during Advent and Lent.

The practice of dedicating a child in lieu of baptism is not practiced in the Episcopal Church.
