Shed upon your Church, O Lord, the brightness of your light, that we, being illumined by the teaching of your apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of your truth, that at length we may attain to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

St. John’s Day Wine Blessing

It is in the Gospel of Saint John that we hear the story of the Wedding at Cana of Galilee in which Jesus transforms the water into wine. After the stories of the Magi and the Baptism of Christ in the River Jordan, this sign at Cana is the third traditional epiphany. The Feast of Saint John the Evangelist is Friday, December 27, and it is traditional to bless wine on this day. If you would like to have wine from your home blessed, bring your bottles to the mass for this blessing.
