From the Rector: Trinity Updates
/Trinity Sunday 2022
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful luncheon we enjoyed this past Pentecost Sunday. The food was abundant, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. As well, many thanks to those who organized last Saturday's aloha hour following the Rosary and Votive Mass of the BVM. The discussion regarding the Jewish roots of Mary was particularly rich, and I was reminded that we need more of these theological and spiritual discussions within the church. People are hungry for good theology and study opportunities. These social events are also important for the building of relationships among our members.
This Friday, June 10, is Kamehameha I Day observed, a state holiday, and the preschool and church office will be closed. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am; Morning Prayer precedes the mass at 10:00 am. The feasts and commemorations of the upcoming days, along with other details, are available on the website.
Currently mass is celebrated each day except for Mondays. The daily masses are beautiful in their simplicity, lasting approximately a half hour. Many in the parish regularly attend these weekday services, and new attendees are always welcome. If you would like to be a regular server at the daily masses, or if you can be a greeter, or serve on the altar guild, please let me know. We are always happy to add more volunteers to our ministries.
Lastly, this Sunday, June 12, is Trinity Sunday, and Thursday, June 16, is Corpus Christi. Having just finished Holy Week and the fifty days of Easter, we are now given the opportunity to reflect upon the fullness of the Holy Trinity as witnessed in the events of the cross and resurrection. On the Thursday that follows Trinity Sunday, we enjoy a celebration of our Lord's presence in the Sacrament, not with the dereliction that overshadows the liturgy of Maundy Thursday, but with the joy of being transformed by our Lord's resurrection. Whereas on Maundy Thursday our liturgy ended with the stripping of the altar, on Corpus Christ our celebration ends with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
As we move into summer, I hope you may enjoy everything St. Mark's continues to offer.
