From the Rector: Good News

Feast of St. Francis of Assisi - 4 October 2022

Dear Friends of St. Mark's,

We have good news to share. According to our treasurer, Michael Ida, members of the community have given over $4,000 to St. Mark's through Give Aloha at Foodland. Soon we will know what the corporate match is, but for now we know that we have met our goal. Thank you to everyone who gave for St. Mark's.

I also want to thank Mike Dupre, Tom Soplinksi, and the choir for the spectacular job they did at Evensong and Benediction last Saturday. It was a beautiful service. The only thing that needed improvement was attendance from the congregation. Next time it would be nice if the numbers in the pews were doubled. Nevertheless, the choir and acolytes did a fine job, and the reception afterwards was a superb feast of wines, cheeses, and other delicious hor d'oeuvres.

This week our stewardship letter for 2023 is being mailed to the congregation along with pledge cards. Youy also have the option of making your pledge online through the church website. It is the generosity of the congregation that makes St. Mark's such a remarkable place, and I want to be the first person to thank everyone for their ongoing financial support. We hope that everyone is able to turn in their pledge by the end of October.

The days are beginning to shorten, and soon the Autumn Triduum will be here. All Hallow, All Saints, and All Souls are three of my favorite days of the year, and on October 26 the Rector's Study will resume, exploring the themes of these days. This year Bishop Fitzpatrick will be with us on November 1 for our Solemn Mass of All Saints, and at the service he will celebrate confirmations. We have three candidates for confirmation, and after the service dinner will be served. On November 2 we will have our annual Solemn Requiem for All Souls remembering our beloved faithful departed. Please mark your calendars now and make every effort to attend mass on both days.

Blessings,
