Dear friends,
I want to begin by thanking our Treasurer, Dr. Michael Ida, for the excellent presentation he gave on our parish finances and stewardship practices last Sunday. As is always the case, his talk was clear and precise, and his charts and graphs made everything easy to understand. Michael is a computer science and math teacher at Kalani High School, and we know he is a blessing to his students, and we experienced that firsthand on Sunday.
Michael has been one of our key leaders for stewardship at St. Mark’s for over a decade now. Last weekend we recorded his stewardship talk for the parish, and it is now available for your viewing. In his talk, Michael describes how God often blesses us in unexpected ways. Be sure to listen to his story and share it with others who may find it inspirational. Technology and social media provide so many new ways to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
As for sharing the good news, this Saturday the choir will sing Evensong and Benediction at 5:00 pm. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall. This is a wonderful occasion for you to invite friends to St. Mark’s. Music is one of the tools we have for sharing the faith, and yet so few churches devote the resources to choral forms of worship. Again and again I hear how many Episcopalians and Anglicans were brought to the faith through Evensong and Benediction.
Lastly, Friday is the last day to give to Give Aloha as September is coming to a close. If you cannot make a trip to Foodland, you can make your donation online through their website. For those who have donated, the vestry is grateful. For those who have yet to donate, mahalo in advance.
Blessings,
Father Paul Lillie +
